Spec3 is based on one of the most popular racing chassis of all time, the BMW E36. With extremely capable cars built near the lowest price point in all of racing, Spec3 balances performance with cost and vehicle parity with a ruleset focused on competitive fields where expense is not correlated with finishing position. Spec3 is one of the fastest growing classes in the country and for good reason. Even the best Spec3 at the NASA championships can be built for under $25,000 and most cars are built under $18,000 including the car itself. Used, turn-key Spec3 race cars (when available) can be purchased for $10,000-$17,000, however, given the rapid growth of the class, it is advised newcomers build a car as very few people are selling theirs.
